"can I exercise during a relapse?"
theseAdvice from the MS Society shows that exercise during a relapse does not make MS worse in the long term and that exercise does not trigger relapse.
Advice is not to exercise until symptoms have levelled off and any steroids prescribed to help you through the symptoms have finished.
A physiotherapist can help you get back into an exercise routine once the relapse has ended and can provide advice on strengthening activities for any affected body parts. A physiotherapist is more suitable than a PT to 'prescribe' specific movements at this stage of rehabilitation, however post-relapse a PT can be invaluable for monitoring and progressing these exercises as you are able to increase your workload.
From personally seeing the benefit of both these aspects of rehabilitation - from working with my own physio plus delivering sessions myself in my training and coaching work - I strongly believe there is a place for both professional roles in our personal MS armoury.
